Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book?

Most clients book about 1-2 weeks in advance, but we can be flexible in the event you'd like to book further or have something set up more quickly.

My dog is not very well-behaved, does that matter?

I've worked with dogs of all levels of obedience and have developed some tried-and-true methods and techniques to capture a wide-range of shots of your animal in his/her best light. All dogs are welcome and we have the patience to make sure that everyone is happy throughout the entire process.

My dog cannot be trusted off lead, does it matter?

Here's a little secret: most of the dogs I photograph are actually on-leash, with the client standing right at their side! With extensive practice and a high attention to detail, you will forget the leash was ever on your animal when we took the photo! If your dog wears a harness or something similar, I can generally hide that as well.

Do you photograph pets other than dogs?

Most of my clients are dogs, but I would be more than happy to capture moments of your cat, horse, rabbit, ferret, or any other pet you may have that you'd like to have photographed. Make sure to let us know what kind of animal you plan to have photographed when you contact us.

Can I be in the photos?

Absolutely! One of my favorite things to capture is the genuine relationship you (and your family) share with your pet. We will take a number of shots with your pet by themselves, as well as include any members of the family if requested.

How do I choose a location?

If you have a location in mind you can let us know in advance, otherwise we'd be happy to make suggestions based on your location and your pet's interests/lifestyle (beach, hiking, urban, etc...).

(While location does play a role in the outcome of our session, a lot of my photos have a blurred background,  making the emphasis of the photos focused on your animal/family.)

Depending on your pet's health or age, the home environment works well too, as long as there's enough natural light available. Spacious backyards and/or uncluttered rooms in the house are completely plausible places to have photos taken. Trees and shade structures allow for nice, filtered light as well.

How far will you travel for sessions?

I am based in Reno, Nevada and will travel anywhere within 15 miles of the city for the regular session price. There is a $25 surcharge to travel beyond those 15 miles (up to 40 miles away.) However, if you're beyond 40 miles, we will adjust the fee to your specific situation. WagLab Photography is completely mobile and always willing to travel.

What if the weather isn't looking too pleasant?

We can shoot in sunny or cloudy skies with moderate wind and temperature, but may need to reschedule if it is too hot, too windy, rainy, or stormy. I always look at the forecast leading up to our shoot to make sure we're still good to go. If it turns out we need to reschedule because of weather, then we will do just that at no additional fee.

Do you offer gift certificates?

A photography session with a loved one's pet makes for a unique and special gift. While we don't have any physical gift certificates at this time, we are happy to provide our service to the person of your specification. Be sure to let us know this is a gift for someone else and we will get the proper instructions out to you.
